Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend Awarded Statewide Recognition by the Texas Workforce Commission

CORPUS CHRISTI – Commissioner Ruth Ruggero Hughs of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) will acknowledge the prestigious TWC awards that Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend received and local businesses that were recognized at the 19th Annual Texas Workforce Conference recently held in Dallas, Texas. A 10:00 a.m. press conference on Friday, January 15, 2016 will be held at the Workforce Solutions Sunrise Career Center located at 5858 S.P.I.D., Ste. 1, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend was recognized for outstanding board performance, receiving $100,000 for Youth Inspiration and Career Awareness. This inaugural award focuses on career awareness and exploration for young adults. The Coastal Bend also received a Service to Workers award for $30,000 and a $30,000 Performance Incentive award for Choices Employment. TWC Performance Incentive awards recognize boards that display increased accountability and improved efficiencies. Monetary awards for achievement in these categories will be used to enhance workforce service programs during the next year.

Along with the TWC Incentive Awards, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend is proud to announce Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Corpus Christi and Victoria as the 2015 Employer of the Year and the 2015 Local Employer of Excellence for the Coastal Bend region. Both awards honor employers that are actively involved with their local workforce board and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community.

Pepsi has been in the beverage business for over 100 years and is the only independent Pepsi-Cola bottler in Texas and New Mexico. Family owned and operated, this small business employs 150 people in the Coastal Bend area. Pepsi’s Everest Water division is the only water bottling facility south of Houston and has been a lifesaver during several disaster relief operations by donating and shipping water to Texans in affected areas.

Pepsi proactively seeks opportunities to collaborate with Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend by participating in monthly career development activities, employer events and career center programs. As a growing company, Pepsi uses Workforce Solutions’ resources for recruitment and is committed to hiring veterans through its Hiring Veterans First campaign and is a strong supporter of the annual Hiring Red, White & You! hiring fair.
